Preparation for the Co-op Hiring Process

Founded in 1844, Co-op is one of the largest and leading consumer co-operatives, with over 2,500 stores. They have clear operational goals and employed about 70,000 people. They are a known leader of community-led programmes. Whether candidates are interested in a starting position, or a career for experienced hires, Co-op has a wide range of job opportunities for job seekers.

The Co-op recruitment process is listed as follows:

Application
When going through the application process, you may need to answer several questions and upload your CV. Employers want to hear about your past experiences and career goals.

Telephone Interview
Your first interview is normally done as a short phone conversation. An HR representative may question you about your background and achievements before scheduling an in-person interview.

In-Person Interview
Afterwards, you will be invited to take part in one to two interviews with an HR manager and other managers to authorize your application. Companies aim to understand your career goals, interests for the job and skills.

Assessment Centre
It is likely that you will be invited to take part in the Co-op assessment centre. Over the course of one day, you will be interviewed with a few other candidates. You may be asked to perform presentations, exercises and participate in group discussions.

Tests
The psychometric exams include pre-employment tests, measuring your cognitive abilities and suitability for the job position. Through these assessments, employers determine one’s compatibility for the job.

Co-op SHL-Style Test Process

The Co-op test process is made up of assessment exams which are given to candidates online or in-person.

Taking SHL aptitude tests cover and assess certain capabilities which measure one’s numerical, verbal, inductive and deductive reasoning abilities.

Logical tests focus on applicants’ logical thinking and decision-making abilities, while the verbal exams assess one’s responses to questions based off of written passages.

The numerical exam displays arithmetical problems through graphs and data which one is expected to solve.

Co-op Interview Questions

When preparing for the Co-op interview process, it is important that you go over the company’s information and research more about them.

Review your application and CV details to ensure your readiness when answering questions regarding your skills and experiences. Keep in mind that practising will help you feel prepared and poised.

Below are examples of potential Co-op interview questions:

  • Why Co-op?
  • Tell me about yourself?
  • What is an ideal team for you?
  • What do you know about Co-op?
