SDA Bocconi Test

The test itself is made up of 50 multiple-choice questions, divided between 4 subjects:

  • Numerical reasoning: 7 questions
  • Logic: 15 questions
  • Mathematics: 15 questions
  • Reading comprehension: 13 questions

You have 75 minutes to finish the test. You can manage your time between each question freely.

Numerical Reasoning

Numerical reasoning tests are number-based assessments. They range from basic mathematics or arithmetic tests to high-level numerical critical reasoning assessments.

One of the subjects this test includes is Tables & Graphs- these questions require you to find information in a table/graph and calculate the answer you need using it.

QUESTION

What is the value of (II)?

Correct!

Wrong

Wrong

Wrong

View Explanation

The correct answer is A.

The value (II) is the variable sales cost of chairs. In order to find the value we can use the equation:

Total sales cost = # of units * variable sales costs + fixed sales costs.

If we now place the values given in the chart into the equation we will have:

18,291=12 * VSC+7,587                Subtract 7,587 from each side:

10,704=12 * VC                                   Divide each side by 12:

892=VC

Logic

These questions assess your logical reasoning and information analysis- Separating relevant and irrelevant information is a requirement to correctly solve the questions.

You may be asked to give the truth value of a statement, based on given prepositions. This is done using logical connectives (“not”-negation,  “and”-conjunction, “or”-disjunction).

You may also be asked to perform calculations using combinatorics (permutations, variations, combinations), and related principles.

In addition, you may be asked to solve set questions, which are based on set theory and elementary operations: unions, intersections and complements.

Logic Sample Question:

Danny discovered the following facts while working on his geography assignment: 30% of Georgia's inhabitants are Indian, 50% of Georgia's inhabitants work in the service industry, 20% work in agriculture and 60% drink Coke. Danny drew four conclusions. Which of the four conclusions must be true?

Wrong

Wrong

Wrong

Correct!

View Explanation

The correct answer is 'Some of Georgia's service industry employees drink Coke'.

The key to solving this problem is to figure out the sums (percentages) for each statement. If the results are greater than 100%, we can identify an overlap between categories.

In addition, if we can find a possible situation where the conclusion is false, that means it is possible that it is not true- and if there is no such situation, the conclusion must be true- and is, therefore, the correct answer.

A. "Half of Georgia’s coke-drinking inhabitants are Indian".

60% of Georgia's inhabitant's drink Coke. In addition, 30% of Georgia's inhabitants are Indian. Since the overlap between these groups is 90%, it is possible that the 60% of inhabitants that drink Coke are non-Indian, with a remaining 10% of Georgia's inhabitants that are non-Indian and don't drink Coke, and 30% Indians who do not drink Coke as well. so this could be a false conclusion.

B. "One-third of Georgia's coke-drinking inhabitants work in agriculture".

60% of Georgia's inhabitants drink coke. The percentage of people working in agriculture is 20%. The two categories are not fully overlapping (i.e. 20% + 60% = 80% < 100%)- It's even possible that none of the Coke drinkers work in agriculture. So, this could be a false conclusion.

C. "In Georgia, there are more Indian people working in the service industry than in the agriculture."

It is possible that all agriculture workers are Indian, and none of the service industry workers are Indian. So, this could be a false conclusion.

D. "Some of Georgia's service industry employees drink Coke".

We know that 60% of Georgia's inhabitants drink Coke and 50% work in the service industry. We can then calculate that 50% + 60% = 110% > 100%. So there’s at least a 10% overlap between inhabitants of Georgia that both work in the service industry and drink coke. So, this must be true and is, therefore, the correct answer.

Reading Comprehension

These questions test your ability to read, understand and deduce from written passages. Sometimes you will need to find the answer as it is written in the text, and other times must infer based on what is written.

Reading Comprehension Sample Question:

In the early 18th century, American traders came to Hawaii to exploit the islands’ sandalwood. In the 1830s, the sugar industry was also starting to prosper in Hawaii. In 1893, a group of American immigrants and sugar planters supported by a division of U.S. Marines have overthrown Queen Liliuokalani, the last reigning monarch of Hawaii. One year later, the republic of Hawaii was established as a U.S. protectorate. In March 1959, the U.S. government approved its statehood, and in June the Hawaiian people voted by a wide majority to accept admittance into the US.

Q- Approximately how many years passed between the first American visit to Hawaii to US admittance?

Wrong

Correct!

Wrong

Wrong

View Explanation

The correct answer is 250.

The answer appears in two different parts of the passage. According to the first sentence, "In the early 18th century, American traders came to Hawaii." So this was the first American visit. The last sentence states that "In March 1959, the U.S. government approved its statehood" – that is, admittance to the United States of America. We don't know the exact date of the first visit, but we know it was around 1700. So approximately 250 years passed between the first visit and Hawaii’s admittance.
